Last night at Camden Yards started with a great gesture from Orioles fans. As former Oriole Nelson Cruz stepped up for his first at-bat back in Baltimore since signing with the Seattle Mariners, the Baltimore crowd gave him a warm standing ovation, which I was lucky enough to be a part of. Cruz then thanked the crowd in his second at-bat by crushing a 3-run home run to give the Mariners an early 4-1 lead.
The Orioles would respond though. They loaded the bases to start the 4th inning and ended up scoring three runs, capped off by Jimmy Paredes' 2-RBI single to tie the score at 4-4.
Orioles starter Miguel Gonzaez finally settled down and pitched well after surrenduring the Cruz home run, giving up just those four runs over seven solid innings. The O's got him the run support he needed in the 6th inning when a Caleb Joseph double scored Alejandro De Aza to give the O's the lead, and then a 2-run home run by Paredes put Baltimore up 7-4.
The Orioles would add two more late runs and end up winning the game 9-4 over the Mariners, improving their record to 17-19. The Orioles and Mariners play game two of their series tonight with Elias on the hill for the M's and Chen on the hill for the O's.
